SHOES THAT FIT & THE FASHION FORWARD PROJECT
September 9, 2019 – April Clark
We are so excited to become a partner with Shoes That Fit! Part of our mission at Miss April Fashion Girl is to give back to children's, girls, and arts charities by using our fashion talents through THE FASHION FORWARD PROJECT. The Fashion Forward Project is our charity and fundraising arm that partners with charities that are in line with our core demographic. Last Christmas, Miss April had the idea of creating a program called "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS ARE SHOES" (a play on the Mariah Carey song) It was hard trying to make all of the parts work, finding recipients, donations and partners until we ran across SHOES THAT FIT late this summer.
Shoes That Fit,
tackles one of the most visible signs of poverty in America by giving children in need new athletic shoes to attend school with dignity and joy, prepared to learn, play, and thrive. Miss April has worked in the non profit sector with an organization called, Communities In Schools, which partners with community entities to be a resource for children, to help them succeed and graduate! One of the biggest distractions are kids not having properly fitted shoes. You'd be surprised how a new pair of shoes can change a child's confidence level, so they can focus on what really matters. Shoes That Fit also believes that a new pair of shoes can be a life-changing event for a child. School attendance, self-esteem and behavior improve. Physical activity increases. Smiles return. All from an often over-looked item—a good pair of shoes!
This holiday season will be our first of many shoe drives in the Raleigh and Durham areas. Our shoe program will run during the holidays and for back to school. We are looking to partner with a retailer to host a SHOE TREE where customers can shop for children, much like TOYS FOR TOTS or the SALVATION ARMY ANGEL TREE. We would like to have a one-day in-store celebration to kick off the SHOE TREE and a retailer that will host the tree. We will also have an online component where donations can be made and we will shop for the shoes.
During the holidays, we'd like to also put a small toy or outfit with the shoes. If your organization would like to partner with us please email Miss April at hello@missaprilfashiongirl.com. Stay tuned for this amazing program that we are excited to plan and execute for our local children in need.
